A college grad learns that there’s no escaping high school drama
Justin and I were good friends, and I was also close with his brother. One night, I went barhopping with his brother and another friend, Jill. Afterward, we headed back to Jill’s house. As we pulled into her driveway, it became clear that her younger brother was having a high school rager at the house. Fan-freakin’-tastic.
As soon as we walked in, a random drunk girl came over to talk to me, which was strange because I didn’t know her. Small talk quickly turned awkward when she decided to share how much of a know-it-all she thought she was.
“You had sex with Justin!” she announced loudly to everyone in the room, including Justin’s brother.
He stared at me, completely shocked.
“What?! No! Never.” I protested.
Even though I would obviously know better than her, this girl was adamant that she was right. I was out of college, yet I was somehow the hot topic of high school gossip. From then on, the completely false rumor got out of hand. It got back to Justin, who was somehow convinced that I had lied and told people we hooked up. Apparently, drunk 16-year-olds know more about my sex life than I do…considering that I didn’t even know it existed.
I eventually cleared things up, and the awkwardness between Justin and me is finally gone. I just wonder if we had a good time during our alleged sexual tryst. Maybe I should call that girl sometime and find out…
